Monthly visits are undertaken by WMG members at a number of Dormouse box monitoring projects across Wiltshire. Data from these sites contributes to the People’s Trust for Endangered Species’ (PTES) National Dormouse Monitoring Project (NDMP). (In additional, monitoring schemes are run by other organisations and volunteer groups across the county – whilst their data contributes to our understanding in the county, we don’t signpost volunteers to these projects as they run their groups and volunteers).
Projects offering opportunities to join monthly checks are listed below. If you would like to get involved, please get in touch with the project lead in order to find out the available survey dates and book a place. Bear in mind that projects have varying numbers of survey dates and volunteers helping already (and that projects are all lead by volunteers in their spare time). If you would like to train towards a personal Dormouse licence from Natural England, get in touch and we will try to help where possible.
- Nockatt’s Coppice NDMP (Centerparcs, Longleat Estate, Warminster) Lead: Louisa Kilgallen
- Collingbourne Wood (Collingbourne Ducis) Lead: Chloe Delgery
- West Wood (Marlborough) Lead: Chloe Delgery
- Savernake Forest NDMP (Marlborough) Lead: Mark Satinet. Third Saturday of every month, 10am
To help support these monitoring projects and be covered under our group insurance, we require that anyone joining these schemes becomes a WMG member.
If you are interested in setting up new schemes in the county, please let us know. We are always looking for keen, committed people to lead on new sites.
